Marta Bolinches and Rocío Lara, membres of the Observatory for Equality at UAB, were responsable for delivering the workshop to 14 students from two primary schools located in the Vallès region: La Sardana and La Jota. The activity took place on last Monday 22 May in the Faculty of Lay at UAB.

The activity was designed as part of the CROMA project (Cohesion, Referent, Opportunity, Motivation and Autonomy), one of FAS’ best established programmes, and it welcomes this year 420 students of the three last years of primary school from 25 different schools in the Vallès Occidental region. The programme includes activities in the UAB Campus once a year intended for students to know and discover by themselves the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

The Observatory offered an activity for 14 students participating in the project. The workshop consisted of two parts: first, a series of participatory dynamics aimed at reflecting on inequalities that could affect the lives of children from an intersectional perspective (gender, ethnic origin, race and social class); and second, the simulation of a court proceeding on a fictional case of bullying on grounds of homophobia, which aspired to create opinions in favour of equality and against discrimination, to reflect on the gender issue, discuss the assumptions of traditional masculine and feminine roles, and empower children. They have also been introduced to the Faculty of Law and to the legal world.

The experience has proved to be certainly positive: children have actively participated in the activity and praised it.
