UAB

Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering + Mechanical Engineering

Presentation

The double degree in Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering is taught at the Salesian School of Sarrià (EUSS) in Barcelona. During the double degree, its students develop general competences in industrial engineering in the first two years, and specialist competences in mechanics and in industrial electronics and automation in the last two years. This lets students build up a well-rounded profile as engineers.

The training covers traditional and emerging areas such as automation, industrial computing, industrial communications, robotics, integral design of mechanical components and structures, and manufacturing methods, all the while respecting environmental criteria.

UAB engineering programmes are oriented towards practice, so that its students acquire top-level professional competences needed in a variety of areas within the sector.

EUSS students receive personalised tutoring, and the course includes a large amount of laboratory practice using equipment geared both to teaching and professional use. Students also have at their disposal a range of cutting-edge software and specific individual licences giving complete access even from home. There are also agreements in place for students to be trained at prestigious companies. In the Engineering By Doing version students spend a long period with the company, working on a previously agreed training project, which consolidates their existing competences and equips them with new ones

Student Profile

The ideal student for this course should have the following qualities:

  • Interest in mathematics and physics
  • knowledge of computer science.
  • Calculation skills.
  • Practical, organised and methodical
  • Analysis and synthesis skills.
  • Spatial vision and attention to detail
  • Good manual skills
  • Interest in research,.
  • Knowledge of English.

A good level in mathematics and physics is recommended.

Career options

The degree in Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering provides the training necessary for the application of electronic and microelectronic devices to the automation of production processes, working with microprocessors, electronic instruments, automatons and robots, etc.

In addition, the Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering opens the door to major sectors in industrial engineering, such as construction, machinery, metallurgy and the motor industry.

That is why engineers graduating with these two degrees are capable of taking on the design, assembly, manufacture, production, implementation and planning of systems, projects, quality control, commercialisation, processes and machinery in sectors that combine mechanics, electronics, computing and automation. Some examples are biomechanical prostheses, the motor industry, aeronautics, robotics, precision mechanics, automation processes, and superconductivity.
