Master's Degree in Neuropsychology and Behavioural Neurology

The purpose is to train professionals in assessment and therapeutic orientation in the alteration of higher mental activities (language, memory, perception, calculation, adaptive behaviour, intelligence, etc.) due to focal or diffused brain damage.

Training is linked to evidence-based medical concepts in order to develop an evidence-based neuropsychology practice. We seek to offer training that combines theory and practice from a clinical perspective.

This Master is the result of the initial pilot experience of the Associate's degree in Neuropsychology from the Pharmacy and Psychiatry Department (1987/88 academic year).

Academic training and practice are aided by the online collaboration with the Autonomous Interactive Teaching Office (OAID) of the UAB.

Career opportunities

This Master aims to train and place professionals in the following environments: hospitals, neurological services and psychiatry, neuropsychology units, memory disorders and dementia units, daycare hospitals, nursing homes, geriatrics centres, insurance companies, drug companies, cognitive rehabilitation centers, justice administration, private activities.

Internships

The core (professional) practical training on this master's programme takes place in the hospital context: students join in with the regular activities of their host services.

There are specific practical training activities:

- Workshops: neuropsychological exploration and therapies

- Practical training activities in the autopsy room at the Pathology Service of the Hospital del Mar: brain sectioning in the autopsy room.

- Practical training activities in the microscopy room.

The placement centres are highly specialised in adult neuropsychology. Applicants seeking highly specialised practical training in child neuropsychology will be directed to other programmes.
