The UAB aims is to provide this course on-site. However, we are also prepared to switch to online-only mode when governmental restrictions are introduced or in place because of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this uncertain situation, we will announce the approach and interaction forms concerning this course at a later stage in 2021 (June-July).




Jaume Bernadet Munnè is an actor, script writer, writer of the screenplay, creative artistic director is specialized in  the direction of shows with collective participation. He has been leading, directing and often presenting as Master of Ceremonies various artistic activities of Comediants all over the world: theatre, audiovisual works, movies, TV, macro shows and special events like the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games of Barcelona ' 92. He has carried out different pedagogic projects to transmit the unique artistic language invented by Comediants, with conferences, international workshops, artistic residences and performances such as the International Street Theater Course for FAI AR (Formation Avancée Itinerant des Arts de la Rue Marseille, France).

Rita Kuan (Jin Hua) Theatre artist: actress, assistant direction, creation and artistic production, ideation, design and realization of exhibitions, books, objects, story boards for shows and other theatrical events, she studied up until the fifth year of architecture in Florence.  Since 1979 she’s a member of the theatre group “Comediants“, participating creatively in all their artistic productions: theatre, movies, TV, macro shows and special events like the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games of Barcelona ' 92, different pedagogic activities to transmit the special artistic language invented by Comediants with international workshops, artistic residences, performances like “Architecture and ephemeral spaces”, for ELISAVA and UPC of Barcelona.

Contents overview

The main objective is to give the participants tools to understand the different aspects of artistic creation and scenic art in public spaces. Urban Performing Arts is a mostly practical course for which attendance is required each day, in order to realize a final live and direct street performance.

The course has two branches:

  1. Propaedeutics: 
  • Comediants inventors of a new language: daily sessions of 1 1/2 hours. Analysis of the scenic arts used from Comediants in their urban and outdoor shows and of urban artistic forms developed by others artists and contemporary companies. We will analyze the value of the artistic utilization of the public space, as agora, as a space of contact, coexistence, integration; the structure of some collective acts in open-air, meetings, mass manifestation that recently are appearing all over the world and their relationship with the festive drama, the use of  plasticity elements, music, scenography, song, rituals, as elements of social cohesion, sharing and collective participation.


  1. Process of creation of an urban Performance: The ages of life. Daily sessions of 2 ½ hours of collective physical work with a final performance to present in an urban space.

  • Propaedeutics:
    • Innovation of the festive scene. Rituals for the new Carnival of Venice. The correfoc and the new characters of the Feast of Mercè of Barcelona. The seed of the Tarrega Theatre Festival. The collective participation in the Closing Ceremony of the '92 Olympic Games of Barcelona.
  • Master Class
  • By Toni Mira, dancer and choreographer specialized in Contemporary dance, mapping and audiovisual.


  • Process of creation of an urban Performance:
    • Creation of the urban dramaturgy: The ages of life.


  • Propaedeutics:
    • Exposition of projects watching audiovisual material, story boards and written projects. A final class discussion.





  • Process of creation of an urban Performance:
    • Laboratory of artistic research from the experiences and memory of oral transmission of each student, such as lullabies, learning tunes, pitchmen’s sing-song, funeral rituals, wedding songs, mixed with poems, and choreographies in a contemporary style.
    • Actoral training: actions, scenes, movement, voice and song.
  • Propaedeutics:
    • Scenery, scenography and big artifacts for stadiums, Expos, commemorative parades, cultural capitals, using emblematic buildings such as La Pedrera de Barcelona, The Opera House of Sydney, etc.


  • Process of creation of an urban Performance:
    • Set up of the Performance. Plasticity. Visuality.
  • Propaedeutics:
    • Audiovisual tools in the outdoor events. The verticality, the allegoric chariots, the city as a scenic decoration, the inflatable elements, the pyrotechnics and other special effects. The design and production of big events in the public space.


  • Process of creation of an urban Performance:
    • Actoral Training. Costumes, neutral mask, plasticity and visual elements.
    • Rehearsal in the square.
    • Play of the Urban Performance: The ages of Life. Thursday 8 Jul 12.00h. Agora Campus Bellaterra    



Propaedeutics: Participation and discussion (25%).
Process of creation of the Urban performance: Attendance and participation is required each day of the course (75%).
