Chemical Analysis Service (SAQ)
The purpose of the Chemical Analysis Service (CAS) is to support research through the use of its analytical instrumentation. The CCA performs chemical analyses on a wide variety of materials, both for research and for raw material control, advises on the resolution of analytical problems, and develops and validates specific procedures for solving particular problems.
Services
- Qualitative and quantitative inorganic elemental analysis of concentrations from major to parts per trillion, by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) or Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).
- Quantitative microanalysis of C, H, N, and S in biological samples, soils, synthetic products, pharmaceuticals, industrial materials, waste, etc.
- Determination of mixture composition and qualitative and quantitative characterisation of volatile or semi-volatile substances by gas chromatography with FID or mass spectrometric detection, using direct injection, headspace, or SPME.
- Determination of mixture composition and qualitative and quantitative characterisation of non-volatile substances by liquid chromatography, with UV-vis detection, ELSD or mass spectrometry (ion trap, Q-TOF).
- Characterisation of optical activity by UV-vis circular dichroism; determination of specific rotation.
- Characterisation of functional groups by FT-IR spectroscopy (ATR).
- UV-vis spectrum recording and quantitative analysis.
- Mineralisation of materials by high-pressure digestion in a microwave digester.
- Analytical advice, development of specific methodologies, validation of analytical procedures.
- Bespoke training courses in ICP-MS, GC, LC, MS.
