The optical microscopes awarded in the Ministry's 2024 funding call will arrive this November.
The new high-throughput automated optical microscopy platform for screening and monitoring biological samples and materials will consist of a slide scanner and a high-content screening system.
As we informed the research community, we were awarded co-financing for the acquisition of this platform. Following the relevant tendering process, the supplier of the equipment will be Evident.
The platform will consist of two wide-field microscopes:
- A slide scanner equipped with bright-field, fluorescence and polarised light. A notable feature of this instrument is that it is the only one on the market to offer a 40× oil-immersion objective, enabling researchers to capture higher-resolution mosaics.

- High-content screening system, equipped with bright-field, phase-contrast and fluorescence. This microscope will feature two new Evident innovations: the new IX85 wide-field microscope model and a 25× multi-immersion objective with silicone gel pads, which allows for time-lapse imaging without depleting the immersion fluid.

In addition, it will feature various programmes that will allow image acquisition to be guided by neural networks and for images to be processed or analysed, both simultaneously (on the screening system) and subsequently (on both systems).
Once the equipment is installed and the technical staff have completed their training, we will make a further announcement to arrange demonstration days so that the user community can try out and evaluate the equipment.
Once again, we would like to thank the research community for their support.
