Friends of the UAB to celebrate its annual event

Once again, the yearly event will include the ceremony of the Friends Awards, the Library Awards and the Social Council Awards. The event will take place on 16 November and among the awardees will be Ana Ripoll, Josep Font, Antonio Franco and the  CREAF.

The yearly event held by the Friends of the UAB Association will take place on 16 November at 7:30 p.m. at the UAB Casa Convalescència (Carrer Sant Antoni Maria Claret 171, Barcelona). This year, the Ecology and Forest Applications Research Centre (CREAF) will receive the group award. The "Friends of Friends" award will go to Ana Ripoll, former rector of the UAB; Josep Font, former UAB ombudsman; and Antonio Franco, journalist and former president of the Friends of the UAB. UAB Rector Margarita Arboix will preside the event which will be conducted by Albert Sòria, president of the association.

This year, the second edition of the "Friend of the Libraries" award will also be given. The distinction is given to those who have contributed to enlarging the UAB libraries' stock. The award will be given to Martí Gelabertó (General Maps Library), Enric Lluch (Humanities Library), Manuel García Doncel (Science and Technology Library), Humberto Ribas (Communications Library and General Newspaper Archives) and José María Veciana (Social Sciences Library).

The UAB Social Council will confer the "University Society" award onto Bonaventura Clotet, head of infectious diseases at the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol and director of the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, and the "University Business" award to four renowned gastronomic professionals: Montserrat Fontané, (Can Roca), Anna Payet (Festival de Cap Roig), Alejandra Rivas (Rocambolesc) and Encarna Tirado (Espai Mas Marroch). The Social Council awards will be presented by its president, Gabriel Masfurroll.
