The Academia Europaea (AE) is a truly multicultural and multidisciplinary organisation with a pan-European reach. It currently has about 3,500 members from almost forty European countries elected amongst the most distinguished scholars following a rigorous election process. It includes 16 Nobel prize laureates and three Fields medalists.

Alexander Fidora is one of only two new members to the Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies section admitted this year, from where he will be collaborating very closely with the AE's Mediterranean branch, the Barcelona Knowledge Hub, located at the Institute of Catalan Studies. Upon becoming a member of the Academia Europaea, Professor Fidora will resign, after three years, from his position as President of the Social Sciences and Humanities section of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE), the AE's young scientists branch.

This past July Alexander Fidora was elected Vice President of the Société Internationale pour l’Étude de la Philosophie Médiévale, the most prestigious society in the field of medieval philosophy with some 1,000 members.
