Between 1999 and 2001, AQU Catalunya and the CBUC carried out the first cross evaluation of the library services of Catalan public libraries. Now, five years later, it has been deemed necessary to perform a new evaluation because significant changes have occurred within the context of library services.
One of the main priorities of the UAB Library Services is to obtain maximum quality in all the services it renders. In accordance with this philosophy, the Library Services personnel participated in the pilot phase of the UAB?s improvement groups (1994-1997) and became the first Spanish university library to obtain the ISO 9001 certification in 2000. Along these same lines, the Library Services obtained in the first examination session the Library Services Quality Certificate (2003), which is granted by the Ministry of Education and run by the ANECA.
The objective is to evaluate the UAB?s Library Services and their contribution to the quality of learning and research. How the service acts in relation to teaching and self-learning, research, the digital library, the use of the TIC and cooperation and innovation. The evaluation period covers from 2001 to 2005.
The autoreport that will be prepared must represent a deeply thought out, participative exercise that makes it possible to obtain an assessable vision of weak and strong points and, especially, find out where there is room for improvement. Obtaining this objective is what will make the autoreport useful.
There are two phases to the evaluation:
- Internal evaluation
- External evaluation
The internal evaluation will be carried out by the Internal Evaluation Committee.
The external evaluation will be carried out by a group of experts from outside our university. It will be prepared based on the Internal Committee?s report, visits and gathering of opinions and assessments.
The last step will be for the Internal Committee to use the results of the External Committee?s report to prepare a final document that will state the weak points, strong points and proposals for improvement.
