Caixa Enginyers, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya and the computer consulting agency NTT DATA are three companies that will be proposing real challenges so that future engineers can find solutions, as part of the first hackathon organised by the UAB School of Engineering and which will take place on 18 and 19 May. For 32 hours, students will be divided into groups to compete and find the best solution for each company.

The UAB School of Engineering organises on 18 and 19 May the hackathon "UAB THE HACK!", an initiative to bring together students and professionals from various disciplines and different universities to solve real challenges proposed by the companies NTT DATA, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya and Caixa Enginyers.

For companies, this event is an opportunity to discover new talents, promote their brand, obtain innovative ideas with which to their real challenges, and connect in a unique way with the university community and other companies.

The event is organised by the Tecno UAB student association and a group of students from the School of Engineering with the support of the school's management.

Practical and collaborative learning

For more than 32 hours in a row, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills and abilities in a hands-on, collaborative learning environment.

The students will be divided into groups of four and will spend a whole day and a half working to find solutions to the challenges posed by the three companies. The challenges will cover areas such as sustainability, inclusion, data management, AI, education, health and mobility. At the end, one proposal for each company will be decided as the winner.

The event will start on Saturday 18 May at 9 a.m. at the UAB campus with a welcome session and a presentation of the challenges proposed by the collaborating companies.

The teams will have until 12 noon on Sunday 19 May to work on their projects. At this time, the hackathon will conclude with a ceremony to present all the projects, followed by the awarding of prizes to the most innovative teams.

The teams will be supported by mentors (doctoral students, professors, etc.) who will guide the teams during the more than 32 hours of the event.

The Student Council of the UAB School of Engineering leads the organisation of this hackathon after the success obtained in the celebration two weeks ago of the 10th edition of the MEMEnginy technological fair of employment and entrepreneurship, with one thousand participants, the most successful and participatory held so far.
