Author: Xavier Duran holds a degree in Chemical Sciences and a PhD in Communication Studies by the UAB. He is currently a science journalist and in 1999 became director of the TV3 programme "El medi ambient". He has published several essays and popularization books, as “The Poliedric Brain”, “Environmental Connections”, “The Stories that Words Hide” and “ The Artist in the Lab. Brushstrokes on Art and Science”
Summary: The launching of Sputnik (1957) and the landing on the Moon (1969) are events of great technological but also economic, political and military impact. The differences between both events and the situation of Barcelona’s press and society when they happened are used by the author as a political reading of journalist treatment of the two events.

Author: Manuel Cruz is Professor of Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, author of more than a dozen books and member of the editorial board of many national and international. journals on his specialty. He collaborates with the Spanish newspapers "El País" and "La Vanguardia" and the Argentinian newspaper "Clarín". He is also collaborator of "Radio SER" and director of the "Barcelona Metropolis" magazine.

Summary: The third debate on science journalism organised by Foundation Dr Antonio Esteve dealt with issues like the scandal provoked by the publication of false works on therapeutic cloning by Woo-Suk Hwang. In these debates, the Foundation brings together representatives from both journalism and science. Hugo Cerdà, Enrique Coperías, Joaquim Elcacho and Pablo Francescutti were the four representatives from the communication field. Jaume Baguñà, Acaimo González, Francisco Murillo and Francesca Vidal represented the scientific community.
