Author: José Enrique Ruiz-Domènec (Granada, 1948). Ruiz-Domènec studied history in Granada and Barcelona, where he received his doctorate in 1973 at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His main subjects of research are History of the Middle Ages, European culture and Mediterranean heritage. Apart from his work in historical research, he has thoroughly investigated the writing of history and published several books on the subject, as well as numerous essays in newspapers and magazines.

Summary: In this ambitious essay the author reflects on the idea of Europe throughout history and on the pillars sustaining it: Christian roots, culture, geography, the scientific spirit, the separation of secular and religious, forms of government and myths.

Author: Claudi Mans i Teixidó (Badalona, 1948), retired professor and emeritus professor of chemical engineering at the University of Barcelona. He has dedicated years to the popularization of science and research in the history of chemistry, and regularly collaborates with articles in "Notícies per a Químics" and "Revista de la Societat Catalana de Química". Among his most known works are El secret de les etiquetesLa truita cremada and his latest book Sferificaciones y Macarrones.

Summary: This book reveals the scientific secrets of traditional and haute cuisine and offers readers the chance to experiment recipes among flasks and cookers. The book was presented with Ferran Adrià, author of the foreword.

Author: Anna Cornella i Solans (Barcelona, 1953) is geologist. She received her degree in micropalaeontology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1977, and lectured at UAB until 1983. The reason for publishing this book was to "shed light on the surprising phenomenon of fossils found in the stones of houses [...] arousing the reader's interest and, after reading this guide, making the reader want to explore and find fossils in urban cities and towns of our planet Earth".

Summary: This guide will surprise readers with an unusual and unknown part of the city of Barcelona, showing that the facades of houses are not only built of stones, but also contain fossils. These fascinating fossils can leave us stunned and make us realise that part of the early evolution of our planet is still alive in the walls of our homes.

Pueblos indígenas en la Amazonía peruana

Author: Pedro Mayor Aparicio and Richard E. Bodmer. Pedro Mayor is associate professor of the ÜAB Department of Animal Health and Anatomy. Richard E. Bodmer is professor of the Department of Anthropology, University of Kent. Both researchers work in the same group dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in the Peruvian Amazon.

Summary: Peru is characterised for having one of the largest ethno-cultural wealth of the American continent and of the world. One-third of Peru's population is indigenous and the Amazon in particular is the region with the greatest diversity of indigenous groups of the country. In recent decades, indigenous people of the Amazon have begun to suffer the impact of colonisation. This book aims to show the main identity traits of ethnic groups located in the Peruvian Amazon.
