Summary: This book is the first volume of the collection "El llenguatge de les pedres" (The Language of Stones), a project through which the Geological Institute of Catalonia wishes to promote geology among society and at the same time recover the history of a people. The first volume explains the geological processes which caused the village of Montcl�s, in the Noguera region, to collapse in the 14th century, with only the church left standing. These occurences were interpreted as a punishment for sinners, but can now be interpreted in geological terms.

Author: Xavier Duran i Esrib� (Barcelona, 1959) is journalist and chemist. He holds a BA in Chemistry and a PhD in Communication Sciences from UAB. Duran has published several books, from novels to popular science essays. He is currently the editor of the TV3 programme El Medi Ambient. In 1991 he won the Joan Fuster Prize of essay.

This book is an approach to the intellectual and personal life of Niels Bohr by one of the best historians of contemporary science, John L. Heilbron. The translation is by Xavier Roqu�, professor of history of science of CEHIC at Universitat Aut�noma de Barcelona.
Summary: This volume includes excerpts from his correspondence, educational texts, the legendary debate with Einstein on epistemological problems in atomic physics and the open letter to the UN with which Bohr tried to intervene as a physicist in the debate on international relations in a world which could not ignore the role of the atom.

Author: This project involves a score of renowned experts in the fields of health, epidemiology, biomedicine, microbiology and nutrition, who analyse the causes, evolution and impact of diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, asthma, obesity, mental disorders or aging diseases our society suffers from.
Summary: In recent years, a variety of factors are responsible for the emergence and resurgence of various diseases, both infectious and non-infectious. This resurgence affects all areas with more social exclusion, environmental degradation and poverty, but also characterised by unhealthy lifestyles. One of the conclusions of the study is that these diseases are real problems for the health of the world in this new century.
