2020. Smart Sports Innovation Brunch

Smarts Sports Innovation Brunch

The UAB Sport Research Institute collaborated in the innovation brunch promoted by Hubb30. More than 40 actors from the sports industry participated in the event that took place on February 21, 2020 at the UAB Sabadell Campus.

The debate was moderated by Oriol Serra (INDESCAT Cluster Manager). A case of innovation in timing of sports events was presented by Federico Diato (Co-founder and Marketing Manager of Macsha) and Xavier Catasús (Business Development Manager of Health & Sports Industries of Eureca). Afterwards, refreshments were served.

Innovation brunches are meetings that reveal the most disruptive technologies and how they impact the business and social fabric. They are dedicated to lines of innovation in specific fields that allow us to know first-hand the trends that take place in the field, as well as the experts who start them. They are aimed at organizations that want to innovate with the help of local research agents.

In the last decade, thanks to research, ICTs and innovation, a significant development of the sports industry has been evidenced, which has not only affected sports products and services, but also related industries: textiles, electronics, nutrition, construction, tourism, events and communication, among others. Some of the innovations with the greatest impact on athletes' performance and health relate to improvements in the mechanics of human movement, new materials, IOT sensors, custom designs and automation. For example, wearable devices, smart sportswear and biometric data management stand out. Other innovations impact the experience of fans, such as drones and augmented reality, streaming, or the management of spaces and members of sports clubs. This brunch contributed to and debated a vision of trends in this field.
