How to rethink Catalan universities in the current situation
Description:
As part of the Catalan Summer University, Xavier Gabarrell, vice-rector of Campus and Sustainability of the UAB, will participate in "How to rethink Catalan universities in the current situation", which will also bring together representatives from the University of Barcelona, the University of Girona and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. The meeting will take place on 22 August at 12 noon at the Liceu Polivalent Charles Renouvier in the town of Prada.

Global Microbial Identification conference
Description:
From 4 to 6 September, the UAB Faculty of Veterinary Medicine organises a conference entitled GMI 14 (Global Microbial Identification), which focuses on the use of genome sequencing of microorganisms in relation to the concept of One Health. This three-day event will take place at the conference hall of the Rectorat building.

Inauguration of the exhibition "És la meva democràcia la teva democràcia?"
Description:
The UAB School for a Culture of Peace organises an exhibition entitled "És la meva democràcia la teva democràcia?" [Is my democracy your democracy?] in the former La Model prison of Barcelona. The exhibition focuses on the benefits and limitations of democracy with the help of experiences from people who have seen democratic transitions in different European countries. The inauguration will take place on 16 September at 7 p.m., and will include the participation of the band Desacord, which will perform songs from the years in which Spanish transitioned to democracy. On 28 September a conference related to the exhibition's theme will also be held.

30th anniversary of the UAB Research Ethics Committee
Description:
The UAB Research Ethics Committee (CERec)—previously known as the Ethics Committee on Animal and Human Experimentation (CEEAH)—was founded in 1994 as a pioneer initiative in Spain with the aim of guaranteeing rigour, honesty and responsibility in the research carried out at the UAB. The centre now celebrates its 30th anniversary with a two-day commemorative event.
The first day will be a space for reflection and debate on issues of great current relevance in the field of ethics, big data in health, and artificial intelligence, with conferences offered by renowned local and international speakers.
The second day will be more institutional and open to the general public. Those interested can sign up here.

Going Extreme. History, narratives and the threat to Europe's democracies
Description:
As part of the ARENAS (Analysis of and Responses to Extremist Narratives) project, financed by the Horizon Europe programme, the UAB's Centre for Studies on Dictatorships and Democracies (CEDID) has organised the international congress Going Extreme. History, Narratives and the Threat to Democracies in Europe, which will take place on 25, 26 and 27 September. The congress will be held at the Mirador Hall of the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona. The inaugural session, which will take place on 25 Septmeber at 6 p.m., will consist in a debate on democracy, extremism and youth in which Judit Carrera, director of the CCCB, will participate; as well as journalist Milagros Pérez Oliva; Minister of Youth and Children Sira Riego; and professor in Political Science at the UAB and former Minister for Universities, Joan Subirats. The main researcher of the ARENAS project is Steven Forti, lecturer in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History at the UAB and researcher at the CEDID.
