Pablo Simón to inaugurate the year at the Facultat of Political Science and Sociology
Description:
Pablo Simón, lecturer in political science at the University Carlos III, will give the inaugural speech of the 2024/25 year at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, entitled "Polarisation and the Media". The event will take place on 19 September at 12 noon at the faculty's conference hall. Also speaking will be UAB Rector Javier Lafuente and Faculty Dean Xavier Ballart.

Engineering Welcome Day (#EWD24)
Description:
The School of Engineering's Students Council has teamed up with the School of Engineering to offer a welcoming session to all of the community: the Engineering Welcome Day (#EWD24).
The activities will take place at the School of Engineering from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Some will be more academically centres, with professional conferences, and other will be more leisurely, with a collectives' fair and other activities addressed to first-year students.
A la jornada també es convida a estudiants i entitat d’altres centres de la UAB a través de la Fira de Col·lectius, que tindrà lloc al vestíbul de l’Escola, de 15 a 17 hores, una gran oportunitat per conèixer el gran teixit associatiu que té la UAB.
Abans, hi haurà una sessió general i el primer #TECNODAY del curs, on es realitzaran conferències professionals, aprofitant per presentar els OpenLab i associacions com el Tecno UAB o el Club d’Emprenedors. També hi hauran presentacions de les empreses Deloitte, Accenture, N3N, U4Impact o GFT.
The day will also serve to invite students and entities from other UAB centres through the Collectives Fair, which will take place in the lobby of the School, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., a great opportunity to learn about the great associative network existing at the UAB.
Before, there will be a general session and the first #TECNODAY of the course, where professional conferences will be held, taking the opportunity to present the OpenLab and associations such as Tecno UAB or the Entrepreneurs Club. There will also be presentations from the companies Deloitte, Accenture, N3N, U4Impact and GFT.

The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence located at the UAB campus, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in an institutional event which will take place on 20 September at 10 a.m. at the La Pedrera in Barcelona.

Current challenges in studies conducted on migration and mobility in Latin America
Description:
The UAB's GEDIME and CER-Migracions organise a seminar on the challenges of migration and mobility studies focusing on Latin America under the name of Desafiaments actuals dels estudis sobre migracions i mobilitat a Amèrica Llatina. The seminar will take place on 25 September from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Board Room (B3B/-121) of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology. The seminar will include researchers from the University of Caldas, colombia, and the University of Conca, Ecuador, and will be validated as a training activity for students of the UAB PhD programme in Sociology.

Going Extreme. History, narratives and the threat to Europe's democracies
Description:
As part of the ARENAS (Analysis of and Responses to Extremist Narratives) project, financed by the Horizon Europe programme, the UAB's Centre for Studies on Dictatorships and Democracies (CEDID) has organised the international congress Going Extreme. History, Narratives and the Threat to Democracies in Europe, which will take place on 25, 26 and 27 September. The congress will be held at the Mirador Hall of the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona. The inaugural session, which will take place on 25 Septmeber at 6 p.m., will consist in a debate on democracy, extremism and youth in which Judit Carrera, director of the CCCB, will participate; as well as journalist Milagros Pérez Oliva; Minister of Youth and Children Sira Riego; and professor in Political Science at the UAB and former Minister for Universities, Joan Subirats. The main researcher of the ARENAS project is Steven Forti, lecturer in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History at the UAB and researcher at the CEDID.
