ICTA-UAB researcher Giorgos Kallis will be one of the experts taking part in the Terra.do public panel discussion on the challenges of climate action under different economic systems.
Date: Thursday July 15, 2021
Time: 5 PM – 6 PM CEST
Venue: Online Zoom – Register here
The event is organized for our 12-week Learning for Action course, but has been made available to anyone with an interest in the topic. Terra.do's goal has always been to promote a big-tent approach that is welcoming of all perspectives; we hope this panel will be an opportunity for different ideas to be aired about the interaction between climate action and the political economy.
Speakers
Alice Ross works on the main newsdesk at the Financial Times as Deputy News Editor and helps to oversee coverage on the homepage and the front page of the paper. She has held a range of roles across the FT including editor of Trade Secrets, editor of FT Wealth, Frankfurt bureau chief, currencies correspondent and deputy money editor. Her book, Investing to Save the Planet, was published by Penguin in November 2020. It explains how individuals can turn their savings and pensions, however big or small, into a force for change.
Giorgos Kallis is an ecological economist and political ecologist working on environmental justice and limits to growth. An ICREA professor since 2010, Giorgos was previously a Marie Curie International Fellow at the Energy and Resources group at the University of California-Berkeley. His research is ‘un-disciplinary’. He has worked over the years on very diverse topics; from water policy in Europe and California, participatory science, and evolution in societies, to climate change, limits to growth and conflicts over resource use. What connects the various pieces of work is a quest to understand why and how societies misuse their environments, and why behavioural, institutional and technological changes that could make a difference are not taken up. He is most known for his recent publications on ‘degrowth’, the hypothesis that societies can live better with less.
