Hearing is one of the fundamental senses for communication and perception of our surroundings. The human auditory system is made up of complex structures that transform sound waves into nerve impulses interpretable by the brain. This mechanism enables not only hearing, but also sound localization and understanding of spoken language. Alterations in any of these mechanisms can lead to various auditory pathologies, ranging from sensorineural hearing loss to central auditory processing disorders.
This Evaluation offers a comprehensive overview of the human auditory system, from anatomy to physiology and associated pathologies. It explores the structures of the outer, middle, and inner ear, as well as the processes that convert sounds into electrical signals in the cochlea. It analyzes the mechanisms of sound transduction and encoding, including auditory nerve responses. Audiometry, tympanometry, and other hearing tests are also addressed. Finally, it covers cochlear pathophysiology and the function of auditory brain nuclei, providing an integrated understanding of the auditory system and its potential disorders.
We present this training program in response to a growing need for specialized education in the field of audiology. This demand has been expressed by various involved institutions, including healthcare centers, educational entities, and research organizations (ANA, National Association of Hearing Aid Specialists; CREDA, Educational Resource Center for Students with Hearing Disabilities; ENT Department of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital; ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Department of the Hospital de Sant Pau), which have identified the need to update and expand knowledge in technologies applied to hearing health. This program is designed to offer comprehensive and advanced training that addresses current challenges in the sector and contributes to improving audiological care.
-Synchronous classes in the afternoon, in-personlabs on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.-
- Hearing diagnosis devices.
Additionally, this training program offers an entry point into the field of audiology for individuals interested in hearing technologies who wish to continue their education in this discipline.
