The division between nature and culture has long been a cornerstone of our understanding of the world. However, this rigid separation is increasingly inadequate for addressing the complexity of today's environmental challenges.
Nature is not a static backdrop for human life, but an active agent with which we co-evolve. This microcredential is primarily aimed at educators and education professionals who wish to incorporate nature-based artistic practices as tools for pedagogy, mediation, and connection with the territory. It is also open to other profiles interested in the intersection of art, sustainability, materiality, and education: artists, environmental educators, cultural mediators, or change agents. Artistic thinking and practice methodologies foster spaces for critical reflection. Art becomes a field of knowledge that centers the process -not just the outcome. In this context, the journey is as important as the destination, and unexpected discoveries become compasses for our creative work.
The program offers an artistic and sensory immersion into the world of mineral pigments and living inks, through an experiential journey that combines theory, practice, and artistic experimentation. Nature becomes our laboratory, studio, and source of inspiration. Using the elements it provides, we will explore a way of making that unfolds throughout the process in a necessary, fertile, and surprising dialogue.
The program unfolds in three phases that invite active and creative practice:
Observe
Sensory and visual activation through observation of the environment, material collection, and discovery of artistic references. We build a new way of being and doing-open, porous, and sustainable.
Transform
By processing materials, we will create mineral pigments and botanical inks. We will explore both traditional and experimental painting techniques, as well as the creation of our own tools and supports, expanding the boundaries ofartistic practice.
Create
Once the techniques are internalized, we will open a space for open creation where drawing becomes a tool for visual and gestural exploration. This phase culminates in a personal or collective artistic proposal that articulates the experience and knowledge generated.
The microcredential will take place at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, exploring its surroundings to foster an expanded, collective pedagogy that is sensitive to the spaces we inhabit. We will open active, open, and collective learning processes (access to inclusive, equitable, and quality education - SDG 4), using artistic methodologies to raise awareness of biodiversity, promote coexistence (reduction of inequalities - SDG 10, and gender equality - SDG 5), and reflect together on how education and art can foster awareness and action, contributing to climate action (SDG 13). The practices and techniques proposed throughout the process promote the use of sustainable raw materials, resource savings, and waste reduction (SDG 15).
- Introduction to material and visual research as a pedagogical practice.
- Observation of the environment and respectful collection of natural materials.
- Processing of mineral pigments and botanical inks using artisanal techniques.
- Exploration of artistic references and ecological thinking.
Artistic practice and process documentation:
- Creation of custom tools and supports for pictorial practice.
- Development of an artistic project linked to personal and territorial experience through drawing.
- Documentation of the process: research notebook, visual record, and shared reflection.
It offers specialization in art education with an ecofeminist approach in schools, secondary education institutions, and art institutions, as well as in arts-based education with a multidisciplinary perspective. Teaching and learning are centered on the connections between art and nature.
