In our society, described as a “society of the spectacle” by Guy Debord, images and videos play a fundamental role in shaping the social representations of childhood and youth. However, the immediacy of social media, the proliferation of fake news, partial information, and the emergence of artificial intelligence pose major challenges for students in understanding society and addressing social issues. For this reason, it is essential that every teacher has the foundational knowledge and tools necessary to foster critical thinking in the classroom, at any educational stage.
This course is aimed at teachers of all educational levels, both in the field of social sciences and in other disciplines, including Secondary Education teachers as well as Primary and Early Childhood Education teachers (second cycle). The course offers practical training with examples and resources tailored to each stage to work on the development of Critical Thinking, Media Education, and Critical Literacy in the classroom, with the goal of helping children and young people understand and address the problems of our society.
The course is designed as an intensive program over four afternoons during the months of January and February, starting at 5:00 p.m.
This microcredential could be part of future specialization and postgraduate diplomas if taken in conjunction with other microcredentials.
