The local authorities make up a very important part of the public administration of Catalonia given that they are those that are closest to citizens and, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, they must provide a greater number of services, always having as their main purpose the achievement of their well-being.

The large number of municipalities and supra-municipal authorities, as well as instrumental entities of the public sector local means that the staff at their service is very numerous. This staff requires training and adequate professional training to deal with the complexity of skills and functions that the said administrations are in charge. The Master's in management and local law aims to give response to the need to train professionals in this area.

The need to establish homogeneous training throughout the territory of Catalonia in the subjects related to local administration - law, management, finance and town planning, basically - in order to guarantee the necessary and appropriate knowledge, both theoretical and practical, to university graduates who they want to work there and the staff at their service justifies the existence of this master's degree, of those already 10 editions have been made (1st edition: 2004-2006), with great success. The Master provides a holistic knowledge of local and urban law necessary for both local technicians, graduates in generic disciplines and generally interested in the application of the local legal regime. Likewise, it represents a first professionalizing contact in the field that can open new avenues of specialization and higher academic training.
