The aim of this master's degree is to give students a solid grounding in two closely related facets of legal and judicial work, namely written translation and oral interpreting, expanding their knowledge and skills and thus helping them to satisfy the increasing demands of the market.
Not only does the programme unify two highly interconnected courses, but it also provides an opportunity to see at first hand how professional legal translators and judicial interpreters work, through the fieldwork leading up to the final dissertation.
Its greatest strength definitely lies in its instructors: a well-established team of experts in their respective specialties, which means, for example, that subjects introducing the Spanish legal regime and procedural law are taught by a judge, and the subject Translation in International Organisations by the head of translation into Spanish at one such organisation.
One of the best ways to see how satisfied students are with this programme is to read the opinions of ex-students: https://pagines.uab.cat/tijuridica/es/content/opiniones-de-ex-alumnos.
Placements are non-curricular and voluntary, which means students are given a handbook with advice and addresses but it is up to them to apply for placements at organisations offering them.
Regarding the schedules, classes of the master's degree (and of the graduate diploma in Legal Translation) are always from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a maximum of three afternoons per week, as can be seen in the calendar of the 2022-23 academic year. Finally, in the FAQ’s document you can find answers to the most common questions about the full scholarship, the languages of the program, the requirements for foreign students, etc.
