It has been confirmed that the best food for a newborn is its mother's milk. When that is not possible, human milk from donors is the best alternative for sick or premature newborns.
This semi-classroom based postgraduate course of 30 ECTS credits aims to train professionals who are able to identify the success factors and problems that may arise in mothers who breast feed at any stage of lactation and to offer a response and adequate advice for all the different circumstances.
The course focuses on the understanding of breastfeeding as an experience which includes biomedical, anthropological, social and nutritional elements with a view to offering a response to the uniqueness of each case.
The programme has been designed for all people working professionally in the care of breastfeeding mothers (professionals in the areas of medicine, nutrition or occupational therapy) and aims to offer active, student-centres learning using a participative methodology based on tools such as simulation and case studies from a narrative angle.

Career opportunities

- This graduate diploma contributes to a deeper and more up to date understanding for professionals working with breastfeeding mothers.
- Human Breast Milk Bank Management.

UAB masters and graduate diplomas may include or facilitate external academic internships in companies or institutions in order to help the student to achieve a level of expertise that facilitates the insertion or promotion in the workplace.

These internships may be curricular (compulsory) or non-curricular (optional).

  • Curricular
Curricular practices are those which are included in the curriculum of the studies and, therefore, must be overcome to obtain the degree. The programme manager will explain you the details of how, where and under what conditions you should do the internship.
  • Non-curricular
As a UAB student, you have access to the University occupation portal, the Occupability Service, through which you can participate in selection processes for non-curricular practices as well as getting a contract. In both cases, you need to sign up to the Nexus application.
