Following the creation of the European Higher Education Area one of the main objectives of universities to transmit knowledge to the world of work. This objective has been pursued for almost thirty years by the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, when we began to offer courses in ophthalmology, followed by workshops in anaesthesia and surgery, which were taken by many veterinary surgeons.
Having analysed the training need of veterinary professional working in Small Animal Clinics and taught new Postgraduate Diploma courses in Small Animal Clinical Practice, we have seen how much interest there is from veterinary professionals in taking the different specialisms of the diploma separately according to their particular interests. Another added incentive is the possibility of taking these course modules online.
