- This course is aimed at university students and other educated people in general who wish to have training in Egyptology, especially centred on certain topics of interest linked to the subject.
- Students should be able to demonstrate how Egyptian culture can be studied from different subject areas and different focuses and methods.
- The course is designed as an introduction to one aspect of pharaonic culture, which is especially attractive and treated in an innovative way within the civilisation.
- The reasons for creating this course are great interest in Ancient Egypt both among university students and the general public and also successful acceptance. The experience of the online Egyptology course offered on the Coursera platform, which was well received by both university and non-university students alike from both our own area and other parts of Spain and Latin America, has allowed us to see the potential of a course like this one.

In human societies images constitute one of the most richest and most diverse expressive areas in terms of meaning. In the case of Ancient Egypt, understanding its images allows access to a large number of specific aspects associated with its culture, daily life and religion, as well as an alternative way of seeing and interpreting the world. This course seeks primarily to explain the system of representation used by the Egyptians in Antiquity, the importance of its contexts and their nature. Another important objective is knowledge of their basic principles of composition, articulation and meaning (position, size, colour). It also aims to introduce students to the traditional methods of analysis (iconography, dating criteria) but also and especially in other more recent and lesser used methods, but which are more useful, such as those based on iconology and semiology which allow the Egyptian images to not only be seen but also read.
