In recent years there has been a spate of new regulations in the areas of personal data protection and transparency, which are fundamental to information management.

In data protection, the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679, applied as of 2018, represented a paradigm shift in the management of personal data, both in the public and private sectors. In Spain, the direct effect was the approval of Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights, in force today.

In addition, Law 19/2013, on transparency, access to public information and good governance, regulates the duties of active publicity (transparency portals) and the right of access to public information.

The necessary combination of both laws has led to a scenario in which entities have to disclose a great deal of information but without infringing other rights and/or interests, especially personal data protection rights.

It is essential for data and information management professionals to have a thorough knowledge of organisations' duties regarding personal data processing and transparency.

A pioneering online programme in the Spanish and Ibero-American university context.
