In recent years there has been a spate of new regulations in the areas of personal data protection and transparency, which are fundamental to information management.
Regarding data protection, in May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation led to a paradigm shift in personal data management in both the public and the private sector.
In addition, Law 19/2013, on transparency, access to public information and good governance, regulates the duties of active publicity (transparency portals) and the right of access to public information.
The necessary combination of both laws has led to a scenario in which entities have to disclose a great deal of information but without infringing other rights and/or interests, especially personal data protection rights.
It is essential for data and information management professionals to have a thorough knowledge of organisations' duties regarding personal data processing and transparency.
A pioneering online programme in the Spanish and Ibero-American university context.
Contents- Introduction to the course: data protection and transparency.

Career opportunitiesOn passing this course, students will have the tools needed to perform a variety of tasks in information management.
One option available is in archive and records management, but there are openings in any area of information management in the public sector and in private entities linked to it - as a data protection officer, in particular - or in the management of transparency portals and/or social media or other internet-based outlets. This same work could also be done in external consultancy services, rather than as a public- or private-sector employee.
