This specialisation course is centred on accessible communication and focuses on easy-to-understand language, especially in digital environments. Easy-to-understand language covers all language modalities with different levels of simplification and a determined visual presentation with the objective of allowing everyone to be able to perceive the information and understand it better. Examples of easy-to-understand language are easy reading and plain language.

The course offers an introduction to the key concepts in this area and presents a broad view of the legislation, recommendations and standards related to easy-to-understand language. It also presents the processes of creating, adapting and validating easy-to-understand content and highlights the challenges of translating easy language to the digital and audio-visual environment.

The course is offered in six units over twelve weeks. For each unit, during the first weeks the online teaching materials will be made accessible and there will be a question and answer session. The second week focuses on tasks and interaction via a written forum. The first ten weeks of teaching are in English. During the last two weeks students carry out specific tasks in one of the course languages: Catalan, Spanish or English. The offer of languages can be increased or reduced on demand.

The course is aimed at people from a broad range of profiles: translators, linguists, journalists or communications experts who want to study this subject in more depth, but also technicians, artists, cultural managers, companies and organisation in and professionals in the public and private sectors who want to make their communication more accessible.

We recommend this course for people who have previously studied Management and Promotion of Accessibility or have previous knowledge of accessibility, but this is not essential. A good level of the working language is also recommended (Catalan, Spanish orEnglish).
