Miquel Tomàs Collection
Miquel Tomàs Ondiviela (1936-2011), a Catalan physicist trained in Barcelona and Paris, who worked in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) between 1964 and 1967, the High Energy Experiments Group of the Nuclear Energy Board in Madrid, between 1967 and 1971, and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona until 1975, when he joined the private sector.
Tomàs was a pioneer in the study of high energy physics in Spain and promoted the creation of the Centre de Càlcul of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which he directed in his first stage. The collection consists of documents ceded by the Tomàs Guarch family with the mediation of the Servei d'Arxius de Ciència (CEHIC, UAB). The documents correspond to the years 1964-1974 and include correspondence, administrative documents, handwritten annotations for courses or oppositions, and separations from scientific work. The description of the documents is based on the inventory and catalog made by the Serveis d'Arxius de Ciència. The fund is deposited at the UAB Science and Technology Library.
Mireia Bachs and Rosa Pujol (Science and Technology Library, UAB) and Jordi Sequero and Carlos Acosta (Servei d'Arxius de Ciència and Centre d'Història de la Ciència, CEHIC, UAB), under the coordination of Xavier Roqué (CEHIC, UAB) have worked in the classification and digitalization of documents in order to its incorporation into the DDD. This action has been supported by the Servei d'Arxius de Ciència and the projects HAR2011-27308 Physics, culture and politics in Spain (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and HAR2014-57776-P Physics in the construction of Europe (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad).
Description of the collection: The collection was donated by the Tomàs Guarch family, and contains manuscript notes of articles, correspondence and administrative documents when Miquel Tomàs worked in public entities.
