Jordi Castellanos i Vila (Tagamanent, 1946 – Barcelona, 2012), essayist, literary critic and historian of literature.

He studied Romance languages at the University of Barcelona (1965-1970) and at the same time he attended the lectures on Catalan literature by Professor Joaquim Molas at the Catalan University Studies.

In 1971 he joined the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as a lecturer in Catalan Literature where, since 1988, he was a professor. Since 1994, he directed the Research Group on Contemporary Catalan Literature (GELCC).

Specialist in Catalan literature from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, he published numerous studies on Modernisme and Noucentisme.

Founding member of Els Marges, a magazine on Catalan language and literature, and co-director since 1990 with Josep Murgades. He collaborated, among others, in Recerques, a magazine on history, and as an advisor to several publishers collections: Edicions 62 Antologia Catalana, Biblioteca Els Marges. He participated in the creation of TRACES, the bibliographical data base on Catalan language and literature. Curator of several exhibitions including Modernisme (1990-1991) and Calders. The mirrors of fiction (2000-2001). In 2005, he began to work as an advisor to the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.

Member of the Verdaguer Society, of the International Association of Catalan Language and Literature and a permanent member of the Histoy-Archaeology Section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.

The collection, donated by his heirs to the UAB, is being cataloged thanks to the collaboration between the Humanities Library and the Department of Catalan.

Description of the collection: The Jordi Castellanos Collection brings together some of his personal and professional documentation. It mainly includes manuscripts of his works, correspondence, professional and personal documentation, press clippings, library, newspaper archive, etc.

The Humanities Library is working on the processing of this material, which will be available once it is classified.
