The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is a non-profit initiative put forth by several Canadian and American universities which aims to guarantee universal open access to knowledge and an improvement in the quality of research in scientific publications.

For the past 10 years, the UAB maintains a close collaboration with PKP and works jointly with the aim of providing open access to scientific knowledge.

Under the title of Reflections and Directions, the PKP2019 analyses the continuous growth of the infrastructures and open access for a global community of users.

Since 2001, PKP's open-source software Open Journal Systems (OJS) has permitted thousands of users from over 100 countries to produce academic journals. Now, these publications must face not only problems related to growth of the journals and also the open access sector, but also the demands to reconsider financial models, policies and institutional priorities.

The programme will include round tables, short debates, workshops and conferences in three different thematic axes: community, technology and open access.
