AENOR Director in Catalonia Eva Subirà recently awarded the quality guarantee certificate ISO 9001:2015 to the Viral Vector Production Unit. In charge of accepting the certificate were UAB Rector Margarita Arboix and Unit Director Miguel Chillón.

The Viral Vector Production Unit (Unitat de Producció de Vectors) is a mixed technology platform formed by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute. It was created in 2005 and specialises in viral vectors for gene therapy at public and private institutions around the world, mainly in the biotechnology and biomedicine sectors, but also in veterinary medicine and pharmaceuticals.

Among its products and technological services are: (i) the development, design, production and purification of specifically personalised gene therapy vectors according to the indications of the researcher; and (ii) assessment in the selection and design of vectors according to the desired gene expression.

The UPV is formed by highly qualified personnel and its main objective is to continue to be a national leader in gene therapy using viral vectors, through the excellence in their project execution and the commitment to provide services of maximum quality and attention. As a result of this commitment to both quality and service of their products, the UPV successfully passed the audit needed to receive the ISO 9001:2015 certification by AENOR in July 2018.

AENOR is a leading standardisation organisation and its cetificates are the best valued and the company is among the top 10 certifiers in the world. Currently over 77,000 professional centres have obtained one of the AENOR certificates, which are issued in fields including quality management, environmental management, R&D&i, work security and health, and energetic efficiency.
