International Welcome Days 2021

This year there will be a virtual competition: the International Welcome Olympics (IWO). Two teams will be created—Cityland and Campustown—that will compete on February 16, 17 and 18, carrying out activities such as world recipes or a costume contests.

The second semester's International Welcome Days will begin on February 15 and run until Friday of the same week. During these five days, UAB international students will be able to take part in the various workshops and talks scheduled by the university in order to get to know the campus where they will live in the coming months.

The UAB has created a programme full of activities that will allow newcomers to become familiar with the services and groups of the UAB community and to meet other students. The activities, which will begin on Monday February 15, will be led by the Welcome session for students that will be held online at 1:00 p.m. Later, at 4:00 p.m., there will be a presentation of the Erasmus Student Network collective. During the rest of the days, there will be a virtual fair for student groups and UAB services where international students will have the opportunity to learn about the university's youth participation.

The second semester Tandem activities will also be inaugurated, the program par excellence that offers international and local students the opportunity to practice different languages and learn about other cultures. The meetings, following the regulations regarding covid-19, will be held virtually on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students who want to take part will only have to pre-register.

As a novelty, given the health situation and the impossibility of carrying out face-to-face activities to welcome new students, this year there will be a virtual competition: the International Welcome Olympics (IWO). Two teams will be created—Cityland and Campustown—that will compete on 16, 17 and 18 February carrying out activities such as: world recipes or a costume contest, among others. The teams will be led by mentors and will be created according to the preferences of each student through a form. On Friday, during the conclusion of the International Welcome Days, the competition prizes will also be handed out.

The complete programme can be consulted on the UAB website.
