On February 22, 2021, our colleague Alfred Ferret retired.

And then we started looking for words that would be a good description of our partner, of the friend with whom we have shared many years. And we've found a few, and we've selected a few.
Alfred, you have been a colleague, a teacher, an honest, sensible, rigorous, orderly, and consistent researcher. And if we had to put everything in one word, you have been a classy companion, a "gentelman" as the English would say. And it is the normality of all this that makes you an exceptional person.
Science will remember your contributions. But we have the privilege of remembering all these other things that you have taught us, that you have let us share.
