Open Access Policy for research data

Research data in open access at the UAB

The Governing Council of the UAB approves an open research data policy for the University that will cover the needs of most research groups and centers with projects funded both nationally and internationally with regard to the publication of final data in open access.

The policy, applicable to all UAB research staff, has been drafted by the Open Access Commission of the University and approved, on March 11, by the UAB Governing Council. It foresees that the final data of projects financed with public funds will be deposited in the UAB Digital Documents Dipòsit (DDD). The mandate also recommends the PDI and doctoral students to make their data public through the DDD.

Regarding the conditions, the UAB research staff who want to deposit data sets in the DDD must have an ORCID code and prepare these data so that they are in the most open formats possible to facilitate their reuse. Furthermore, the DDD, committed to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), will admit data sets of up to 5GB for free, assign them a DOI and, in principle, preserve the data indefinitely. The policy recommends the use of open CC-BY or CC-0 licenses. The document also establishes the responsibilities of the different actors involved: the research staff, the Library Service, the Computer Service and the Research Management Area.

Contact your reference library for advice on publishing your data sets and accompanying data management plans in the DDD. You can consult all the characteristics of the DDD as a data repository in this table of multidisciplinary repositories for data in open access.
