Editorial Hermenaute presents the official book of this edition of the SITGES Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya: Sombras de Caligari. Cien años de cruces y diálogos con el primer gran clásico del fantástico.

 

 

 

Coordinated by Ángel Sala and Jordi Sánchez-Navarro, the publication includes a chapter by Carlos Tabernero, member of the CEHIC and professor at the UAB.

The book is published to celebrate the centenary of Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, the first great classic of fantasy and horror cinema, and explores its immense cinematographic and cultural legacy. The reader will find diverse views of the enormous influence of the film's issues, staging and narrative resources in later cinema and television, without forgetting the genesis of Caligari, his socio-political framework and the debates aroused by his interpretation of throughout history.

Carlos Tabernero is a member of the CEHIC and professor of History of Science in the Philosophy Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Previously, he has worked as a molecular biologist at the National Cancer Institute in the United States and as a researcher on communication and technology at the Open University of Catalonia. His research and teaching focus on the media (especially film and television) and the processes of production, communication and management of scientific knowledge. In all these areas, he has participated and directed research projects, has coordinated film, television, science and medicine cycles and schools, and has regularly published articles in research journals, book chapters and books. He is the author of Terapias de cine. 50 películas básicas en torno a la medicina (Ed. UOC, 2016).
