New UAB Equality Commission created

The UAB approves the creation of an Equality Commission, delegated by the Governing Council and formed by several members of the UAB community. The commission will be in charge of coordinating the preparation, implementation, monitoring and assessment of the university's Equality Plans, as well as promoting and supervising prevention and action policies in possible discriminatory situations, attitudes, etc.

The latest meeting of the UAB Governing Council, held on 23 October, served to approve under the UAB's IV Plan for Gender Equality the creation of an Equality Commission.

The commission is formed by:
-Three vice rector's offices (presided by the vice rector for gender equality policies)
-The vice rector for academic staff
-The vice rector for administrative and service staff
-The management team of the Observatory for Equality
-The executive administrator or appointed delegate
-Four deans or school directors (one for each branch of knowledge: experimental sciences and technologies, social sciences, the humanities, and health sciences)
-Four members of the academic staff who are also members of the Governing Council, with at least one from the B Sector, one department director and one research centre director
-Two people in representation of the administration and service staff who are also members of the University Senate, of which at least one of the two must also be member of the Governing Council
-Four students proposed by the UAB Student Council, one of whom its president and a PhD student
-One person in representation of the Social Council
-One person in representation of the Teaching and Research Staff Committee (PDI) and the Teaching and Research Staff Work Council
-One person in representation of the Administration and Service Staff Committee (PAS).

The Equality Commission will be in charge of coordinating the preparation, implementation, monitoring and assessment of the university's Equality Plans; guaranteeing the fulfilment of current regulations in terms of equality matters as well as the principle of equality in all areas of university life; fostering and supervising university prevention and action policies in possible discriminatory situations and attitudes; promoting gender transversality throughout the university policies, as well as raising awareness on equality matters among the university community.

The commission will also propose equality-related activities, report on and assess the institutional activities and decisions on equality policies and gather the proposals made in different university centres and units; study and announce the resolutions of grant calls in matters of equality; study and announce the resolutions on issues related to equality regulations passed by the Governing Council; and interpret and develop unexpected aspects in accordance with the general principles established with the matter in question.
