Jordi Font, lecturer of the Department of Modern and Early Modern History at the UAB, was recently elected director of "Memorial Democràtic", a governmental institution dedicated to memory of the historical period ranging from 1931 to 1980.

Jordi Font

Focusing on the historical period of the Second Spanish Republic, the Spanish Civil War, Franco's dictatorship and the Democratic Transition, the Memorial Democràtic institution puts particular emphasis on the "recovery of the memory of victims for ideological, religious and social reasons", as well as remembering those who fought against Franco's dictatorship, people in exile and deportations. The institution regularly organises exhibitions, activities and tributes to historical figures.

Dr Font received his PhD degree in Comparative, Political and Social History at the UAB, and is also author and editor of several books and publications on the Franco Era, exile, and other topics related to that period. He was elected director of the Memorial Democràtic already in 2019, a position he held until 2021. Previously, from 2008 to 2019, he was head of the Museu Memorial de l’Exili (MUME), located in the town of La Jonquera. He has also worked as cultural manager and commissioner of exhibitions, as well as lecturing at the UAB and at the University of Girona.
