The libraries at the UAB rank number one among all Spanish university libraries according to the Spanish University Library Ranking (SECABA-Rank 2015), which evaluates the efficiency of university libraries according to budget and book loans. In the previous edition, the UAB libraries occupied third position.

The SECABA-Lab of the University of Granada is the creator of this ranking in which the efficiency of all libraries of Spanish universities is evaluated. The ranking is based on second level indicators with a methodology based on the general theory of systems.

The source of the data analysed for the ranking is REBIUN, the sector belonging to CRUE responsible for libraries and which each year publishes the Statistics of the Spanish University Libraries. REBIUN is formed by the libraries of 76 CRUE universities (50 of which are state-run and 26 private universities) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

The methodology followed is based on a quantitative and empirical evaluation and a systemic approach. The ranking of the libraries is based on an "index of system potential", which places in relation the inputs (potential of entries based on budgets) with the outputs (potential of exits based on the on-site consultation of documents, home loans and documents downloaded by users from the online library).

The UAB Library Service has improved its score since the first editions of the ranking and in recent years, has always been ranked among the first six positions. This year's edition, in which the UAB ranks number one, is based on data from the year 2016.
