The UAB Archaeology and Palaeontology Campus is an initiative put forth by the academic staff of several UAB faculties, research groups and centres, and by the Vice Rectorate for Research through the CORE in Cultural Heritage. Other collaborators include city councils, supramunicipal administrations, museums, associations and private firms.

The distinction highlights the important tasks under way in the fields of research, teaching and dissemination of the archaeology and palaeontology conducted in Catalonia. It is an academic experience which makes use of and integrates the know-how of research projects from the deparments of Prehistory, Antiquity and Middle Age Studies, Geology, and Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology, into practical sessions in archaeology, palaeontology and biology amongst research students enrolled in the various master's degrees and PhD programmes.
These departaments collaborate with over a dozen research groups and centres, such as the Institut Català de Paleontologia (ICP), the ICAC (Institut d’Arqueologia Clàssica de Catalunya) and the CSIC.

The UAB Archaeology and Palaeontology Campus is built around an network of archaeological sites, municipal facilities, museums and archaeological parks in which the UAB conducts part of its bachelor's degrees practical sessions. At the same time, it serves as a training platform for graduate students interested in research.

The Archaeology and Palaeontology Campus is a strategic project launched with the institutional support of the UAB Governing Team through its strategic research community in cultural heritage (CORE network), which aims to act as a single instrument for the creation of sustainable economic, social, cultural and regional development models.
