Historians analyse causes and consequences of Corruption in Modern Spain

On 14 and 15 December, the UAB Parliamentary History Group, the El Born Cultural and Memorial Centre, the Passats Presents Institute of the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the UAB Institute of Political and Social Sciences have organised the first "International Conference on Political Corruption in Modern Spain (19th-21st centuries)", which will take place at the El Born Cultural and Memorial Centre (Plaça Comercial 12, Barcelona).

The meeting aims to analyse the phenomenon from a sufficiently broad temporary and territorial perspective, as well as offer an open reflection on different scientific disciplines. Among other issues, the conferences and round tables will focus on large economic groups and corruption, the specific subjects of the monarchy and of local administrations, corruption within the internal revenue service and the criminal persecution of corruption.

The opening conference, which will take place on 14 December at 10:30 a.m., will be offered by Jens Ivo Engels, professor of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. His speech is entitled "Political Corruption in Contemporary Europe: state of the question, debates and current lines of research". The closing speech will be given on 15 December at 6:30 p.m. and will be offered by Ángel Viñas, professor of the Complutense University in Madrid, entitled "Hunger, Corruption and Briberies in the First Decades of the Franco Regime".

On 15 December at 12:30 p.m., there will also be a presentation of the database entitled "History of Political Corruption in Modern Spain", put together by the UAB Parliamentary History Group.
