"Ciència i democràcia: algunes reflexions en temps d'incertesa" [8/4/2021]

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary, the Faculty of Sciences proposed a reflection under the title "Science and Democracy: Some Reflections in Times of Uncertainty". Agustí Nieto-Galan, professor and director of the Institut d'Història de la Ciència (IHC) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona made us reflect on the concepts of science and democracy.

Agustí Nieto-Galan is Professor of History of Science at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and ICREA Acadèmia research fellow (2009). Following degrees in both chemistry and history, he took his PhD in the History of Science at the Universitat de Barcelona and held postdoctoral positions in the Modern History Faculty, University of Oxford, and the Centre de Recherche en Histoire des Sciences et des Techniques at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie/ CNRS, Paris. He has written widely on the history of chemistry and natural dyestuffs, and the history of the popularization of science (18th-20th centuries). He is a founding member of the international research group “Science and Technology in the European Periphery” (STEP), and the Director of the Institut d'Història de la Ciència (IHC) at the UAB. His latest works are: The Politics of Chemistry (Cambridge University Press, 2019) and Tóxicos Invisibles (Icaria, 2020, edited with Ximo Guillem-Llobat).

 

 

Within
