The European Commission has created the #EUvsVirus challenge to develop solutions to the challenges posed by the current COVID-19 pandemic. This hackathon will take place on 24, 25 and 26 April and will service to bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and experts from all over Europe to work together in developing solutions simultaneously, The UAB has been invited by the European Commission to participate and has taken on the challenge with the commitment to disseminate and promote the involvement of experts and mentors.

The initiative is coordinated by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and includes the support of the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions. It is one of the 10 priority actions of the ERAvsCorona Action Plan, presented by the European Council as a means to fight against the pandemic.

The organisers aim to connect over 60,000 people to collaborate on developing new solutions for the challenges posed by the pandemic, as well as to adapt and scale the projects already being worked on. The objective is to reduce the time in implementing the solutions developed, since participants will be able to contribute to the work done by other innovators, instead of starting from scratch or duplicating the effort already made by other teams.

The hackathon is structured into six categories according to the challenges needing to be solved in the short term: health; continuity of economic activities; distance learning and remote work; social and political cohesion; online banking; as well as anb open category for other types of challenges. All 27 European Union member states will be participating, in addition to Norway, Israel, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The solutions chosen at the end of the hackathon will be invited to participate in the European Innovation Council's Platform to facilitate connection between final users and give access to investors from all across Europe.

Registration will be open until the morning of the day the hackathon begins, 24 April.
