The current crisis not only affects people in health issues, but also in economic, psychological, anthropological, sociological, educational, legal, geographical, cultural, environmental, etc. The lack of reflection and knowledge about gender inequalities, of all kinds, affects the decisions that are made and will continue to be made in the future. Therefore, from the Observatory we invite to reflect on the crisis of the COVID-19 from the gender perspective, this time with Dr. Maria Jesus Izquierdo.
"Today's societies, said to be democratic, are centered on the assumption that the citizen is an autonomous and self-sufficient being, and that he lives with others because it is profitable, so he sets some game rules to avoid attack. This vision takes healthcare out of the political scene.
Maria Jesús Izquierdo, retired professor at the UAB and expert in gender inequalities, has a PhD in Economics and was professor of Sociological Theory at the same university. In the video "The coronavirus between difference and inequality" she reflects on the situation of women with single-parent families, on female students, gender violence, the difference in management and approach to the health crisis by male and female political leaders and the crucial importance of healthcare.
