The Observatory for Equality and the Inclusion Support Service in the UAB (PIUNE) organised together the III Institutional day commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event took place last Thursday, December 3rd, at 12:30 pm. It was broadcasted live on the UAB YouTube channel.

The 3rd of December is established by the United Nations as an international day to demand and promote rights and well-being for persons with disabilities in any social context. The WHO reminds that disability is part of the human condition and that everybody will experience disability at some point in life, whether it is temporary or permanent.

On this occasion, the institutional event was presided by Anabel Galán, Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, who chaired the act with Maria Prats, Director of the Observatory for Equality. A round table was next to be held. The topic was: “Accessibility in study and work: regulations, current situation and main challenges”, with David Gutiérrez, from the UAB Department of Public Law and Legal History Studies, Mercè Pi, in charge of the Web Unit of the UAB Area of Communication & Promotion, Marina Carbonell, from The UAB Library Service, and Teresa Corbella, from the ONCE Educational Resources Centre as speakers. The round table was moderated by Judit Oliver, from the Inclusion Support Service in the UAB (PIUNE).

Following the round table, the Impuls Grants were awarded by Anabel Galán, Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, Gabriel Masfurroll, President of the UAB Social Council, and Jordi Prat, Director of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), a university-based social organisation.

The event finished with the acknowledgement video by Marc Buxaderas, undergraduate student majoring in Journalism and winner of an Impuls Grant, where he explained his experience.

As a reminder, the UAB community has in place the Second Action Plan on disability and inclusion (2018-2023) as well as the fact that students can rely on the Fundació Autònoma Solidària PIUNE support.
