The new wine interpretation centre ViLab Celler was inaugurated on Wednesday 20 February at 7 p.m. in an adjoining area of the Modernist Cellar of Sant Cugat (Carrer Sant Medir 24), symbol of the city's wine-making history. The inauguration included the participation of Mayor of Sant Cugat Carmela Fortuny and the UAB Vice Rector for Research and Transference Armand Sánchez. The centre is a sub-sector of the Sant Cugat museums and forms part of the Living Lab ecosystem in which the UAB participates, in addition to Volpelleres and the UAB Open Labs, among others.

The space is dedicated to the city's historical memory and agricultural tradition and will serve as a hub of knowledge and experimentation, as well as for the transfer of knowledge on social and historic heritage and wine heritage. From now on, every third Sunday of the month there will be free guided tours of the centres.

A visit to the ViLab space aims to be eminently a sensorial experience with proposals for direct experiences. Although it is a versatile and open area, it will also serve to host conferences, wine tastings, presentations, artistic wine-pairings and sensorial workshops. The inauguration will include a 3D mapping projection of the period of maximum splendour in wine-making in Sant Cugat, a family activity based on multisensorial modules (Vi Viu project) and other special activities.

This activity has the support of the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and co-finances with the European Fund for Regional Development (FEDER).
