Feminist activities at FMUAB

FM19
Once again, the Observatory for Equality at UAB will take part in the activities of la Festa Major (university's annual party). This year we will have two simultaneous campaigns and a Series of talks about sexual violence.

06/11/2019

In this edition, the Observatory will have two simultaneous campaigns: the first one, under the motto Only yes means yes, wants to publicize el Punt Lila that will be available from 13h to 23h in front of the Translation and Interpreting faculty. It’s an area coordinated by the Observatory for Equality dedicated to assist the situations of sexual violence that can occur in the context of the FMUAB. This area is going to be managed by technical personnel specialized in approaching sexist violence cases. In addition, el Punt Lila will count on the participation of the Itinerant Brigades. Their purpose is to raise awareness and give information about el Punt Lila, as well as assisting and accompanying the people that have suffered an assault during the FM.

The second campaign, under the motto “Do you flirt or harass?” intends to make people reflect on sexual attraction, consent and masculinity, break the male privilege and create male behaviour patterns that are alternative to the standards. Furthermore, in this day you can play Memory of consent at the stall of the Observatory where you will also find information about the gender equality related activities that are taking place in plaza Cívica.

Finally, in the context of the 25N, the Observatory has organised a Series of talks about sexual violence. The first part of this series will launch on Monday 11th of November with a conference by Cristina Fallarás. She’s a writer, journalist, feminist and promoter of the hashtag #Cuéntalo. The event will be hosted by Isabel Muntané, journalist and codirector of the Master’s degree in Gender and Communication at UAB. The second part of the series will take place on the 20th of November. There will be a round table where guests will discuss the role of men in sexual violence. The speakers are Ritxar Bacete, the prime mover of the Gizonduz de Emakunde program; Lionel Delgado, who is getting his PhD on urbanism, feminism and masculinity models at UB; Oriol Rios, member of Homes en Diàleg; and Daniel Tejedor, technician of the Men's Care Service for promoting non-violent relationships at Barcelona City Council. The event will be moderated by the doctor in Sociology Enrico Mora.

These activities are funded by Pacto de Estado contra la Violencia de Género, Ministerio de la Presidencia, de Relaciones con las Cortes e Igualdad.
