Knowledge

  • Implement the theoretical background acquired through the analysis of the various aspects and specificities of the performing arts to a research project.
  • Define the main manifestations (dramaturgy, performance, and dance, among others) of the performing arts based on theoretical frameworks, methodologies and the techniques typical of each of them).
  • Identify and examine the potential relationship between the different manifestations of the performing arts based on its main characteristics.
  • Determine the work methodologies used for scene creation throughout all stages of the creation of a theatre project.
  • Distinguish any conceptual theoretical elements taken from the real practice of performance processes such as dramaturgy, performance, directing, scenography and choreography.
  • Incorporate the holistic principles of interdependency, transdisciplinarity, integrity, and epistemological pluralism that are typical of the performing arts.
  • Compare the performing arts with other artistic and heuristic disciplines (cinema, music, painting, video art, anthropology, aesthetics, semiotics, social sciences and philosophy).
  • Identify and select the most suitable methodologies and analysis tools for the specific study of each of the various fields of the performing arts.

Skills

  • Apply a critical approach to the observation and analysis of any specific manifestation of the performing arts.
  • Plan and develop the various activities related to a research project in the performing arts, either individually or collectively, while ensuring correct time and resource management. 
  • Critically evaluate a specific performance proposal based on the identification and examination of the key factors (dramaturgy scene design, directing actors, etc.) and define its theatrical field.  
  • Use tools, methods and suitable techniques-such as semiotics, comparison between artistic disciplines,  history and representation, etc. for the analysis of the performing arts.
  • Interpret documentary sources from the field of the performing arts both analytically and critically, while demonstrating an ability to summarise and encourage debate. 
  • Use suitable specific terminology and language register in research projects in the field of the performing arts.

  • Identify stereotypes and gender roles in the performing arts, evaluating their potential impact on professional practice.
  • Work cooperatively in multidisciplinary and diverse teams, taking on and respecting the roles and diversity of its members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, and to carry out both self-analysis and self-criticism.
  • Formulate relevant questions and hypotheses in professional contexts related to the performing arts by applying the knowledge and skills developed during the information stage.
  • Distinguish the various professional dynamics in the performing arts, and the specific functions of each professional profile involved in performance creation, without losing sight of the overall definition of mise-en-scène.
