Content Official Master's Degree in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies

Ideal student profile

The ideal student profile is someone with an official university degree, preferably in Translation and Interpreting or similar, with a general knowledge of current international political and cultural issues. You should have interest in other cultures.
To take this master's degree you will need sufficient knowledge of Spanish (C1 Level for the specialisations "Translation and Intercultural Mediation" and "Conference Interpreting", and a B2 Level for the specialisations "Translation and Intercultural Studies" and "Modern East Asia").
With regard to foreign languages, you will need a B2 Level of English in "Translation and Intercultural Mediation"; and a C1 Level of English and B2 Level in French or German in the specialisation "Conference Interpreting".
If you are interested in taking the specialisation "Translation and Intercultural Studies", you will need a Level B2 in Spanish and the ability to read academic texts in English.
Students of "Modern East Asia" are recommended to have a B1 Level in one of the languages of the region (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and knowledge in a discipline of the Social Sciences or the Humanities.

Specific skills

  • Demonstrate having integrated knowledge from which to make judgments and solve major problems in translation and intercultural studies, and in associated research methods.
  • Conduct research in the fields of translation and intercultural studies.
  • Translate general texts and specialised legal, technical and audiovisual texts.
  • Act as a liaison interpreter in different contexts.
  • Apply the thematic, terminological and textual documentary resources that are needed for interpreting and translating.
  • Identify and describe the different methodological principles that govern interpreting. Integrate knowledge and skills for consecutive interpreting.
  • Know the fundamental cultural elements and processes of East Asian society and apply these from the relevant theoretical and methodological perspectives. Know the social and political structures of contemporary Eastern Asia as seen from the perspective of history, economics, international relations and gender.
  • Demonstrate having integrated the knowledge needed to make judgments on topics and problems deriving from interculturality.
  • Demonstrate having integrated knowledge to make judgments on significant topics and problems in discourse analysis.
  • Use specialised document search and management tools.
  • Design, plan and write an academic or professional paper in the field of translation and intercultural studies.
