Wherever you look there is geology!

Exposició de Geologia

‘The geology that surrounds us’ is the new exhibition at the Science and Technology Library, and has been organized by professors María Luisa Arboleya and Mercè Corbella from the Geology Department.

16/12/2021

Except for products of plant and animal origin, the rest of the materials we use are extracted from the Earth but we are not aware of this in our daily lives.

The exhibition wants to highlight the presence of geology in everything that surrounds us and aims for the visitor to understand how the use we make of these materials ends up having economic, environmental and personal impacts that can help us in making decision about, for example:

-renewable energies versus clean energies;

-the importance of iron, lithium, cobalt or rare earth mining in relation to the massive use of electric vehicles, wind turbines, etc.;

-the enormous dependence that we have on the petrochemical industry (oil and derivatives); or

-the scarce minerals that are used in new technologies and that make the circular economy impossible.

The exhibition, installed at the entrance of the Library, can be seen until January 13, 2022.

We wait for you!
