The periodic table is 150 years old

2019 has been declared the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Elements, and the Science and Technology Library, together with the Department of Chemistry, have set up an exhibition to commemorate this event.

From a scientific point of view, the periodic table has a fundamental role in understanding the properties of known elements, as well as the compounds formed between them. In addition, socially, it has become an icon that goes beyond the scientific field appearing in many areas of our lives.

The exhibition presents the context that led Dmitry Mendeleev to propose the first, its characteristics and evolution over the years, the different examples of tables that are known and how it has been transformed into a regular iconographic symbol.

The exhibition can be visited at the entrance of the Library until November 30th.
